It all started with a love for family, food, and Czech heritage. Granny Sinkule (pictured left) spent the majority of her life in the kitchen cooking for her large farming family. There were not many recipes she was protective of, except that was, her signature dish - kolaches.

Granny believed every step of making kolaches had to be perfect or else they would turn out as "flops." That's why she would take her time hand-crafting these kolaches, starting early in the morning and ending mid-afternoon.
Learning the Recipe
In the summer of 2020, I wanted to learn how to make these prized pastries. I turned to the ladies who learned Granny's recipe years ago - her daughter and daughters-in-law. Let's just say getting the recipe down was simple, but the technique proved rather difficult. Luckily, I learned from the best!
Starting the Business
Upon returning to school at Texas A&M in College Station for the fall semester, I launched "On the Rise Kolaches," baking out of my large apartment kitchen. It was my personal goal to share these delicious kolaches with my friends and fellow Aggies so they could experience a real, authentic kolache (unlike what you would normally find in the freezer section of your grocery store.)
How much business have we done? Let's look at the current figures...
